Glenn's Life & Legacy

January 16, 2025 – Forever In Our Hearts

Glenn Horton was born May 19, 1952, to Glethel and Bessie Horton as the second of seven children.  He passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025.  He grew up in a close-knit family with his siblings; Wendy Hunter (Charles), Denise Smith (Lester), Phyllis Horton, L. Renay Horton, Michael Horton, Kevin Horton and Angelia Horton.

Glenn was a proud graduate of I. C. Norcom High School class of 1970, where he was a honor student, member of the band and Diplomat Social Club.  After high school, he attended Elizabeth City State University.

On February 11, 1972, Glenn married Cynthia Newsome.  They raised three children, Cheryl Eddy (Donald), Phallisha Curtis (Tyrone) and Glenn Newsome.  Over their 52 year marriage, their family grew to include nine grandchildren; Tyrone, Mercedes, Jay, Jasmine, Chloe, Christopher, Gabriella, Maya, and Clayton; and 12 great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy.

Glenn retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a Master Shipbuilder after working 49 ½ years as an Electrician.  He was respected for his skill and admired for how he mentored and supported his co-workers.  Glenn left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with.

Glenn attended Third Baptist Church, was an avid reader, dedicated sports fan, and lover of funk music.  He was a sharp dresser and always finished his look with a signature hat.  Glenn was the person who could fix anything, and brought light, literally and figuratively to everyone who knew him.

Glenn's legacy lives on in his wife, Cynthia, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.  He will be remembered as a strong provider who loved his family deeply.
