Geraldine King Woodard was born July 27, 1943, to the late George C. King and Mary Lee Lewis. Geraldine was the youngest of five children born to this union.
She received her education from Hampton Public Schools graduating from Phoenix High School in 1962, she attended the Peninsula Business College and Thomas Nelson Community College. Geraldine was baptized and attended Little Zion Baptist Church until her health became challenging. Geraldine was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin who was caring, loving and fun.
Geraldine loved her family, cooking great meals, sewing, decorating, shopping with her daughters and granddaughter Daja, going to the casino with the "Golden Girls" and watching NFL and her favorite team the Dallas Cowboys. Geraldine had a big heart, she loved to give to others, she was a hard worker, she instilled work ethic in her children, paying bills on time, saving money and keeping a clean house. She was the biggest supporter of her family, and when she could be there, she was. Geraldine loved her friends and family, and she greeted them with a hug and smile. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren.
Geraldine retired from Walmart after 18 years, she also worked at Hampton University for Gourmet Services for over 10 years. Geraldine was a military spouse when she was married to Melvin Woodard, where she made the ultimate sacrifice to stop college and support her family while managing the work life balance.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Rachel Koonce; brothers, Ernest L. King and James Allen King (Ruth).
Geraldine leaves to cherish her memories her children: Debra V. Parker, and David Parker III of Washington, DC, Toya B. Brown (Wilbur), and Dawn A. Walker of Hampton, VA. and Danielle M. Ortiz (Ramon) of Clarksville, TN.; one living sibling, Mattie "Sang" Williams; sisters-in-law, Annie King and Doris Diggs of Hampton, VA.; grandchildren: A'eriel Parker, Darrell Parker, Aaron "Dion" Parker, Lamont Walker II, Devante Parker, Donte Parker, DeAngelo Parker, Daja Walker and Alonso Ortiz; five great-grandchildren. Her forever son-in-law, Lamont Walker Sr.; special friends that became family, Butch, Tawanna and Tevin Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Little Zion Baptist Church in Hampton, VA. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
