George J.
Askew, Jr.
d. Jan 11, 2026
George Jerome Askew Jr., fondly known as "Pride," passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at Sentara Williamsburg Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was 75 years old. Born on February 28, 1950, in Nyack, New York, to the late George Judkin Askew and Ruth Elizabeth Pleasant. George grew up in Nyack and attended Nyack High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1968.
He distinguished himself as a standout athlete, excelling in both football and baseball during his high school years. His athletic achievements were later celebrated when he was inducted into the Nyack High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022—an honor that filled him with immense pride and joy. George continued his education at Delaware State University. An avid golfer throughout his life, he cherished time on the courses, where he formed lasting friendships and celebrated personal milestones, including the thrill of his first hole-in-one. Above all, George was a devoted family man whose love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family was unwavering.
He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his warmth, pride in his accomplishments, and the quiet strength he brought to those around him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Askew; his loving children, George Earl Porcha (Robin) and Christia King; his cherished grandchildren, George Porcha Jr., Jalen Porcha, Quincy Porcha, Sharif Smith, Christian Smith, and Qiara Smith; his siblings, Barbara Coleman, Doris Chambers, and Lawrance Askew; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alvin Askew; and others who went before him. May his memory be a blessing and a source of comfort to all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Pride. 🕊️
