Obituary

Garry Majette, known to family as "Gus" and "Jetto" to friends and co-workers, was called home by our Heavenly Father on October 7, 2025 while at family home in Newport News, VA.

Garry was born on March 5, 1960 in Rich Square, NC to the late Mary Reid Majette and Floyd Majette. He was member of First Baptist Church of Rich Square. He received his education at W. S Creecy High School in Rich Square, where he played basketball and ran track. Garry, "da," would say he was called low pockets because he ran so fast that his pockets touched the ground.

By the age of 19, Garry became employed with the Newport News Shipyard, "Huntington Ingalls", where he became skilled in welding, sandblasting, and painting. He held positions as Marine Painter and Master Ship Builder. He met many people and accumulated many long-term friends from shipyard along the way. Garry enjoyed his job and took pride in his work. Garry was a self-taught auto mechanic and could work on any car. He had a passion for racing and cooking, mainly barbecuing. He was a true Washington fan, if he seen anything different than he had something to say. He was a true jokester. Nothing will top the laughter and memories that he has built with his family and friends.

During Garry, " Gus"," Jetto" life's journey he married Patricia Clark and was blessed with three children that will pass on his legacy; Kip Majette of Virginia, Tanita Howard of Virginia, and Latisha Whitfield of North Carolina. He also leave to cherish his memories, three sisters, Gail Majette Miller (Willie), Kathy Reid of Paterson, NJ, Sharon Reid of Wallington, NJ; eight grandchildren, Kalek Leary (Brooke), Titiana Majette, Tyree Howard, Antonio Majette, Marquez Majette, Mikkel Majette, Makylah Majette, Meriyah Majette; one great grandson, Andre Leary; one niece, Latanya Majette; and two nephews, Itavious Reid, Samir Reid; one great nephew, Tahiem Reid; and one great niece, Arianna Reid; one aunt Eula "Pig" of Fayetteville, NC; mother-in-law, Catherine Clark of Kelford NC; brothers-in-law, Karl Clark (Barbara), Thornton Clark (Eva); sister-in-law, Darlene Morris (Marvin); and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
