With faith in God’s eternal promises, we announce the peaceful passing of Ms. Floyda M. Carter, who entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in Hampton, Virginia, following a brief illness. She was born on September 23, 1934, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Columbus N. and Ada P. Carter.

Floyda was a devoted educator who dedicated more than 30 years to Newport News Public Schools as a Business Education teacher at Ferguson High School. A graduate of Huntington High School and Virginia State University, where she earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, she was passionate about preparing young people for successful careers and lives. Following retirement, she also briefly worked part-time in the Business Office at Hampton University.

A woman of quiet faith, Floyda was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church East End, faithfully serving in the League of Christian Women, the History Ministry, and the Golden Key Ministry. She will be remembered for her grace, kindness, unwavering faith, generous spirit, and deep love for family. She especially treasured creating lasting memories with her siblings, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends through family gatherings, travel, and shared experiences.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Kenneth O. Carter, Bernice E. Manly, and H. Lionel Carter; brothers-in-law, Raymond Manly and Willie H. Townes, Jr.; and nephew, Ramon Manly.
