Mrs. Evelyn P. Hargraves, departed this life on Thursday, March 28, 2024. She was a loving and devoted wife to Bobby H. Hargraves and a loving mother to her two daughters.

Evelyn was born on September 2, 1932 in South Hill, Virginia to Boney and Eliza Price Phillips. She attended public schools in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Evelyn worked in retail sales at Shaws Jewelers and Burlington Coat Factory in Hampton until her retirement.  Evelyn was a member of Greater Walters A.M.E. Zion Church. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Stewardesses Ministry.

Mrs. Evelyn Hargraves leaves to cherish two daughters, Barbara H. Ethridge (Alvin), Gloria H. Cannon; four grandchildren, Katina Hatten, Marcus Cannon (Tiffany), Bryan Cannon (Ashley), Alvin Cannon (Courtney). The joy of her heart were her six great-grandchildren; Tabitha, Deimon, Marcus, Jr., Camille, Anthony and Cabria.

Evelyn leaves behind a special bond with her husband's twin brother, Billy; and a host of family and friends.

Viewing will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
