Ella Ruth Callis-Carter, 74, was born on July 9, 1949, to Richard General and Daisy Ann Callis, in Brunswick County, Virginia. Ella's biological mother transitioned to being with the LORD, when she was a young child, during her "tender years", thus she was further nurtured and raised by her loving stepmother (Estelle B. Callis) and father.
Ella received her early academics in the Newport News School System. Her early work career began at the former Whittaker Memorial Hospital (Newport News, VA) for many years; before she later became employed with Huntington Ingalls Industries (Newport News, Shipbuilding) , where she worked for over 15+ years.
She was a member of Messiah Center Church, Hampton, VA, under the leadership of former Pastor David Wade, where she attended regularly until her health began to fail.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Katrina G. Cooper; Sabrina G. Powell (Gerald), Joseph (Buck) L. Golden, and Shawn D. Golden (Ajene); eight grandchildren: Jeremy Snead, Christopher Sawyer, Kierra Sawyer, James Golden, III, Gerald Powell, Jr., Carlton Morant, Dequawn Golden, and Zy'quail Golden; two great grandchildren: Jonathan (JD) Waldon, II; and Jehovah-Raah (Hovah) Sawyer.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 17th, from 11:00 am -5:00 pm at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601 27th Street, Newport News, VA 23607. A homegoing service will be held on Thursday, July 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Interment to follow at Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens, located at 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton VA.
