Dorrence
Andrews
d. Sep 12, 2025
Dorrence Daviesse Andrews was born August 8, 1957 in Portsmouth, Va. to the late Robert M. Andrews and Dorena Mitchell Andrews. She passed away September 12, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her step mother, Geraldine Cotton Andrews; and her brother, Jay Robert Andrews.
Dorrence was crowned with the nick name "DeeDee" from birth and is still called that by family. She was call "Dee" by her co-workers. DeeDee graduated in 1975 from Indian River High School in Chesapeake, Va. and attended Norfolk State University for one year. DeeDee worked at McDonald's for three years before she traveled to Washington, D.C. and began what became a 34 year career in the United States Government.
Her first job with the government was as a secretary for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission office of Enforcement Operations. In 1984, she moved to the Department of Justice, still as secretary to the criminal section of the Civil Rights Division. From there she worked for the Office of the Executive Secretary. They were responsible for all correspondence coming into the Department of Justice, especially from Capital Hill, the White House and other departments of the government, including state and local.
DeeDee ended her career in the Executive Office of Immigration review. She started as a team leader and retired as a Deputy Clerk in 2012. In 2006, DeeDee received her Bachelors degree from the University of Phoenix. DeeDee was a great believer in family and tradition. So she began organizing and sponsoring family reunions to bring back the tradition she experienced growing up.
DeeDee leaves to cherish her memory, her brother, Roderick Andrews (Joyce); her uncle, Robert Cotton (Minnie) and countless cousins and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
