Dorothy J.
Lee
d. Feb 20, 2026
Dorothy Jean (Byrd) Lee was born on Jan 22, 1937 in Richmond, VA. She resided in various places with relatives in VA while growing up.
She attended schools in Newport News, and later in life she was proud to receive her GED.
She married Franklin Grant Sr at an early age and they welcomed seven children. Her children were her pride & joy. She taught them many lifelong skills, but especially she shared with them her love for God.
She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on 04/23/1961. She was not shy in telling anyone about her God, Jehovah and his wonderful promises!
She was a very hard worker, whether at home raising her children or doing various jobs throughout the years to support her family . As a past time, she loved listening to music and she really loved to dance. She was also an excellent skater and would attend skating parties with her teenage children.
Later after relocating to Wash, DC, she married Grant Otis Lee whom she loved dearly, the love of her life.
Dorothy is remembered by many as being "Fiesty" but was very lovable and generous, who would give her last dollar. Not only materially, but she was always ready to share an encouraging word.
Affectionately known as Granny, Big Mama, Grand Ma and Granny Dot Dot, she was truly the matriarch of the family, full of wisdom which she would impart to her grand children and children, as well as others.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Grant Lee, her children - Franklin Grant Jr., Cheryl Green, Kirby Grant and Victoria Cosby.
She is survived by her sons Mark Grant and Eric Grant, and her daughter, Constance Scott.
In addition, to her children, she leaves 16 grandchildren, 27 great grand children and a host of nieces & nephews, cousins, sisters, Deborah Drew, Lorrie Debose and brothers, Ronnie Drew Sr and Andrew Newby and a sister in law, Mary Drew.
She will truly be missed by all.
