Mrs. Dorothy Jean Hall Friend was born March 9, 1946, in Newport News, Virginia to the Late Jack and Lorraine Hall. She was the oldest of three children and graduated from Huntington High School in 1964.
Since an early age, she served in the Choir Ministry at Union Baptist Church where she was a member until God called her home. She began her career at Huntington Ingalls Shipyard in 1979 and later retired in 2009. In 2001, Dorothy married the Late Thomas Friend Jr. She may have been known by many names but "Momma" or "Grandma" were the two she loved the most of all.
On January 28th, Dorothy exchanged her cross for a crown when she answered the Master's call from labor to reward. Those left behind to cherish Dorothy's loving memory are her son Eugene Hill III (Shuntay); her daughter Dyonne Watson (Keith) and her sons, Glen Boone (Denise), Wayne Boone (Vicky), Daryl Boone and a son-in-love Ricky McKenzie. One brother, Richard Hall (Patrese), one uncle Dennis Hall of Gretna, VA. Sixteen grandchildren Tristan, Malcolm, Dynita, Madisen, Timothy, Sherrika, Glen II, Marquice, Xaven, Patricia, Shonda, Wayne, Shalay, Lashell, Danielle, Simone. Four granddaughters-in-love Tosyianna, Danielle, Tesha, Mercedes. Thirty-nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, a nephew, two nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
Viewing will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Union Baptist Church, 361 Maple Avenue, Newport News, Va.
