Derek L.
Dunn
d. Jul 20, 2025
Mr. Derek Lamount Dunn ,58 entered into eternal rest on July 20, 2025. Our hearts are heavy with sorrow, but we are deeply grateful for the time we shared and for the love he showed through his unwavering efforts to keep our families united.
Derek was born on June 26, 1967. He was a graduate of Hampton High School in Hampton, Va. Following high school, Derek enlisted into the US Army and later was a US Army Reservist. Throughout his life, Derek was always driven to help others, which led him to a career in hospitality, where he dedicated many years of service until shortly before his passing. Derek was often considered the thread that held the family together, a great responsibility he embraced with grace and unwavering dedication. He loved being the one to spark plans for family gatherings-whether it was fun-filled get-togethers with games like his favorite's, chess or spades, dancing or simply enjoying the love and comfort of being surrounded by family, Derek was truly happy in those shared moments together.
Derek was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Samuel and Louise Williams, his paternal grandparents Noah and India Jones, his aunt Renna Abbott and his brother Arthur Wilson.
Surviving to cherish his loving memory are his wife, Phillipa, his children, Nicole, Akee, Kevon and Christian; his step-children Jordan(Tajaina), Johnathan, Asharie, Jayden, Quaden, Jaylen; his parents Gloria and Richard; his sisters Lisa and Kristen; his brothers Andre (Lyn), Antoine (Sonja), Jeremy, Theo, Keith and James; 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; godmother Willye Mae; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends; and his special nephew AJ Dunn whom his affectionately called "Bam Bam".
