Obituary

Deborah Denson-Saunders (affectionately known as "Debbie") was born in Newport News, VA
at Whitaker Memorial Hospital to the late James Earl Carter, Sr and the late Priscilla Carter, on
September 22, 1958. She departed this earthly life in her home surrounded by loved ones on
May 27, 2023.

Debbie worked in the Newport News Shipbuilding for over 10 years as a Welder. While working
at the Shipyard she put herself through school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and
eventually started her career at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center where she has since
retired. During her time there made a host of friends through the relationships she built with
co-workers and her patients. Her passion to nurture and care for others really blossomed while
working as an LPN.

Debbie was a faithful dedicated Jehovah's Witness for over four decades. She became a
baptized Witness of Jehovah in July 1997 and walked steadfast in her faith until she returned
Home.

She loved nature and had a fondness for cats, butterflies, birds, and had a natural green
thumb. Growing up she loved to draw and dance, she was also an avid reader, writer, and lover
of music. When she wasn't caring for others she tapped into her passion for creativity where
she completed many Do-It-Yourself projects throughout the years by upcycling furniture,
decorative pillows, and more.

Preceding her in death are her parents James Earl Carter, Sr and Priscilla Carter.

She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 34 years, Ernest "Keith" Saunders and her children
Thomas Carter (Nicole Stewart-Carter) and LaTonya Denson, her grandchildren Miyae Carter,
Isaiah Carter, Jordan Carter, Thomas Carter, Jr., Kaaleah Jones, and Naveh Denson-Boddie.
Along with her 9 siblings Linda Rushing (Bobby Rushing, Sr.), Karen Brown, James Carter, Jr.,
Patricia Darnell (David Darnell), Jacqueline Robinson, Earline Marshall, Pamela Holmes (Kenny
Holmes), Kimberly Carter and Lisa Martin (Roger Martin) along with a host of aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews, and cousins
