Mrs. Clara L. Scott departed this life on May 11, 2026, at the age of 88. She remained a devoted follower of Christ. Clara was born to Verlee and Henry on Jan 31, 1938, in Lumberton, N. C., and graduated as Salutatorian from Hilly Branch High School. In 1957, Clara moved from North Carolina to Newport News, VA and got married to Alfred J. Brown and together they had three children (Angela, Alvin, & Terri). In 1977, Clara remarried CW3 Alfred R. “Bobby” Scott Jr., and added five more children to their family. The couple enjoyed 48 years of marriage until Mr. Scott’s death Jan 20, 2025.
Clara retired 38 years ago after working at Gambro, Avon, and Chase Bag Factory.
Clara was preceded in death by her loving Husband & best friend, Alfred R. “Bobby” Scott Jr., her mother Verlee, her Aunt Mildred, her brother James (Alton) Barnes, her sons Michael Anthony Scott, Randy Scott, her daughter, Tainyal Scott, son-in-law Ernest Perry, and daughter-in-law, Angela Scott.
And left to cherish her memory are her brother, Lloyd Drayton (Betty), daughters Angela Perry, Terri L. Mitchell (Terrance), Cynthia Beckett, Jeanell Hernandez, her son Alvin J. Brown (Karen), and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, loving family members, and caring friends.
Thank you to our neighbors, friends, nurses & care-givers Katrina, Dorothy, & Mulu (Allegiance & Armada Home Care Services), the Hospice Care Team, Riverside Staff, and special friends Deacon & Deaconess Luster.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Brian J. Wells, Pastor of Carver Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens. There will be a Repass at the Scott Family home following the Interment.
