Charlie Walter Wooten Jr. , age 86, was born on May 29, 1936, to the late Charlie Sr. and Rachel Jenkins Wooten in Pinetops, North Carolina.  Charlie fell asleep in death on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Charlie attended the Edgecombe County Public Schools and graduated from George Washington Carver High School.  He was an excellent basketball player, he was known by the nickname, "Sweets" because of his style of playing the game.

On September 2, 1958, he married the love of his life, Maggie Barnes and moved to Newport News, Virginia. From this union two sons were born.  Charlie was last employed and retired from the International Longshoremen's Association after many years.

Early in their marriage Charlie & Maggie encountered Jehovah's Witnesses, studied and later dedicated their lives and was baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses together.  In his years as one of Jehovah's Witnesses he was privileged to serve in many capacities, such as: Congregation Servant, City Overseer, Coordinator, Pioneer, Circuit and District Speaker, Operation Servant, and HLC.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Ozzie Wooten, and one sister, Ruth Wooten.

Left to cherish the many memories, two sons, Nicholas Wooten of Newport News; Darryl Wooten (Laura) of Wilmington, NC; one treasured daughter-in-law who became a daughter, Wilhemina Thompson (George); two granddaughters, five grandsons, and four great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Robert Earl (Peggy), John Melvin (Patricia), and William (Tom) (Ada) of Pinetops, NC; one sister, Nellie Wooten Rodgers (William) of Pinetops, NC; one brother-in-law, Benny (Marilyn Renee) of Allen, TX; two aunts; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A  memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 20, 2023 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 804-41st Newport News,VA 23607.
