Celestine Alfisher Hunt-Washington peacefully passed in her home on December 26, 2023 in Hampton, Virginia. For his purpose and in his own way, God took from us a precious loved one. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, who was loved by all who knew her and will be surely missed forever in our hearts and home.
Celestine was born on September 18, 1953 in York County, Virginia to the union of Mabel Bernice Evans-Hunt (deceased) and Jeremiah Hunt (deceased). Celestine spent her childhood years growing up in York County, Virginia. At an early age, she was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, York County, VA in 1974 and accepted Christ as her personal Savior.
Celestine was educated in York County School System and graduated from York High School in 1971. She worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigations from 1971 to 1978. She retired from Hampton Public Safety Communications as a 911 Dispatcher on December 1, 2008 after serving for 30 years.
Celestine leaves to cherish her memories, her only child Reinaldo Washington the miracle baby as she stated (Carla) of Newport News, VA; two brothers Simon Jeremiah Hunt, Newport News, VA, and Wayne Alonzo Hunt, Woodstock, GA; one sister Jacklyn Shoulders, Covington, GA., Kevin D. Hunt raised like a brother (Crystal), Carrollton, VA, and adopted sister Deborah Keitt-Baker (George) of Delaware. She was preceded in death by brother Ralph Ulysses Hunt of Hampton, VA. She leaves 6 grandchildren to cherish her memories; Derrick Knighton-Quash, Delcari Knighton, Christian Washington, Kayla Knighton, Kiya Knighton (deceased), and Ceyani Knighton. Celestine also leaves to cherish her memories nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends; special friends Janet Tucker, Alice Nixon, and daughter Karen, Carrie Mae, and Phyllis James.
Celestine loved encouraging family and friends through Facebook and loved collecting her favorite things. She collected purses, unicorns, African-American figurines, carousels, and African-American dolls. She enjoyed her Thursday afternoon lunch bus activities. She also enjoyed going to Goodwill and shopping online at Walmart and Amazon.
Celestine enjoyed family gatherings. She organized many family reunions and started Lackey Day Reunions celebrating the African-American community of York County. She was the trunk of the family tree keeping everyone connected.
Celestine was very stylish from leopard print, African attire, gold jewelry, and matching pocketbook.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
