Obituary

Carole Nadine Floyd, the daughter of the late Albert Broadwell Brown, Jr. and Gertrude Nadine Brown (Marshall) was born on October 24, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Alvin Floyd, and a special friend, William Matthew Floyd.

She peacefully departed this life on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at her home in Hampton, Virginia.  She was surrounded by her family.

Carole completed her undergraduate education at the University of Toledo and earned a master's degree from Hampton University.  She was a professionally trained passionate educator.  During her career she taught children in Ohio, Germany, California, Kansas, Maryland, and Virginia.  She retired as a teacher with more than 30 years of service.

Carole had a servant's heart and was dedicated to helping others.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hampton.  She enjoyed singing in the choir and playing bells.  Carole volunteered with clothing drives and eagerly sought out opportunities to educate and empower others.  She also worked faithfully with the missionaries and loved sharing stories with her family about her work in the community.

Her further desire to serve was exemplified in her golden lifetime membership and tenure as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.  She was initiated during her college years at the University of Toledo.  Carole continued service for 50 plus years, concluding with the Hampton Alumnae chapter.  She was also a dedicated member of the Newport News/Hampton Continental Societies, Incorporated, and the Hampton Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated.

Carole enjoyed regular fellowship and dinner with members of her birthday club.  One of her great joys was meeting with her special friends to play pinochle.  Carole was an only child however, she enjoyed spending time with her best friends Evelyn Anderson and Jerrye Jackson.

Carole is survived by her son Kevin Albert Floyd (Loury) of Greensboro, North Carolina; two grandchildren: Tobias and Jadon, a goddaughter Michelle, a godson Franklin and an abundance of adoring nieces and nephews, cousins and many other loving relatives and friends.
