Carl A.
Jones
d. Jan 7, 2025
On January 7, 2025, Carl Anthony Jones went home to be with the Lord. He began his life on November 18, 1957, in Newport News, VA, born to the late Earl Jones and Gladys O. Jones.
Carl accepted Jesus as his personal savior at an early age and attended Union Baptist Church. Later, he moved his membership to Providence Baptist Church, where he attended with Corliss and their children, Kori and Courtney. He served as a Deacon there for many years. He recently loved fellowshipping and visiting churches pastored by close friends.
Carl was educated in the Newport News Public School System and graduated from Menchville High School in 1976. He then attended Christopher Newport University. Carl went on to work and spent many years at Avon/Newport News, Inc., where he worked in their print shop. He later joined Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding, retiring from the company in August 2024.
Carl was known for his infectious smile, his ability to uplift those around him, and his deep love of sports - especially as a devoted fan of the LA Lakers and Green Bay Packers. When he was not attending football or basketball games, supporting local athletes, he was likely sharing his God-given talents of singing, drawing, and painting for his loved ones.
Carl is survived by one son, Kori Jones (Logan); a daughter Courtney Jones (Shameka); three granddaughters, Kori "Noelle", Ariah, and Taylor; two sisters, Mitzi Storey (Richard), Renee Cooper (Clifton); nephews Christopher Corbin, Tave'ion Storey, Clifton Cooper, Justin Storey; a niece Brittany Gatling; a special daughter, Tiffany Mann; godchildren, Ray Sutton and Kayla Stith, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Gladys Jones; aunt and second mother, Helen Wilson; his sister, Gwendolyn Jones; and his brother, Frederick Wilson.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Union Baptist Church, 361 Maple Avenue, Newport News, Va. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
