Brenda Joyce Mitchell Barrett , 75, of Newport News, VA transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025.  She was born to the late Alberta Mitchell on September 19, 1950. Brenda would be the oldest of 5 siblings.

Brenda graduated with Huntington High School Class of 1968.  After graduating, she worked at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Stations and then on to Langley Field/NASA as a tool crib attendant under various contractors: Klate Holt, Mason and Hanger, NCI/Dynecorp, and Tessada and Associates until her retirement.

After retirement, she filled her days looking after her grandchildren, reading the newspaper, reading about or watching true crime stories on Investigation Discovery and doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles.  She also loved looking for bargains and shopping at thrift stores.

Brenda is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John T Barrett Jr., and her brothers Leon and John Mitchell. She leaves to cherish her memories with her three children: Leslie, Daniel, and Rhonda Barrett.  Her grandchildren: Amir and Arianna Barrett, Boris and Imani Johnson, Laila Martinez, and Tyler Barrett.  She also was able to cherish memories with her great-granddaughter, Lailani Barrett.  As well as her sister, Louise Deloatch and brother, Ronnie Mitchell, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Viewing will be held from 11:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  She will be buried next to her husband at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
