Obituary

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Mr. Bennie Lewis Ruffin, Jr., was discovered to have answered the Master's call to eternal rest after 81 years of travel upon the face of the earth.

He was born Monday, January 3rd, 1944, in the City of Newport News to Mr. and Mrs. Bennie L. Ruffin, Sr. (Arginetta Hawkins).

He boasted Trenton Central High School of Trenton, New Jersey as his Alma Mater, graduating June, 1963.

After graduating, he became a skilled painter, and was employed by the best companies of the world, including Liebherr in Newport News, and the Klate-Holt Company, formerly located at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA.

He was also a Navy Reservist, serving our nation for 25 years.  As he approached his senior years, he was lastly employed by 7-11, from which he retired from the world of work, but not before achieving pension.

He was married July 1966 to Ernestine Covington, producing 4 offspring from this union: Karolyn L. Ruffin, Kimberly T. Millionaire, Karlton L. Ruffin (Krishna), and Kaycee T. Hall (Devaughn).

Preceding him in death are his aforementioned parents, Mr. And Mrs. Bennie L. Ruffin, Sr., and sister Marilyn E. Ruffin.  He is survived by his two remaining sisters Carrie Ruffin Thigpen, and Patti Ruffin Smith (Fred), and the family he created and shared with Ernestine

The memory of his life will be cherished by a host of family and friends, including his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members in Trenton, NJ, and Louisburg, NC, whom he deeply loved and treasured.

The funeral service for Mr. Ruffin is scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel, located at 1601-27th Street in Newport News, VA.; internment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The Ruffin family would like to express its appreciation for all the prayers, kindness, and sympathies shown during this time of bereavement. Thank you very much and may God bless you.
