Barbara Moses
Smith
d. Mar 30, 2025
On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Barbara Moses Smith transitioned from her earthly house and entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus. Barbara was born on July 20, 1946, to the Late William and Verna Moses in Newport News, Virginia. She was educated in the Newport News Public School System and graduated from Carver High School in 1964. Upon graduation, Barbara became employed at Hampton General Hospital (now Sentara Careplex Hospital) as a Licensed Practical Nurse doing what she loved most; helping and serving others for 35 years until her retirement. In June of 1966, she married the love of her life, William E. Smith, Jr., and the happy couple was blessed with three beautiful gifts from God; William, III, Anthony, and Vatricia. They remained happily married until his demise in 2011.
Upon hearing the gospel of the good news of Jesus Christ, Barbara decided to accept Him as her personal Lord and Savior. During her early adult life, Barbara was a faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church where she served in various ministries for many years until relocating to New Life Church in 1994. During her 30 years, at NLC, Barbara served faithfully in the Women's Fellowship, as a volunteer secretary for Heavenly Waters Youth Camp and Christian Retreat (until Covid), the Prison Fellowship Ministry (Angel Tree), as a Sunday School Teacher, and a member of Peninsula Lighthouse Day AGLOW for over 30 years until her health no longer permitted her to do so.
Barbara was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who loved her family. As a nurse, (even after retirement), Barbara continued to serve her community by checking in on her neighbors/seniors and taking them to various doctor appointments, the grocery store, etc.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; William and Verna Moses, husband; William Earl Smith, Jr., brothers; Albert, Andrew, and Apostle William L. Moses, sisters; Vanessa and Angela M. Moses. Left to cherish her warm memories are her two sons; William E. Smith, III of Hinesville, GA, and Anthony Smith of Hampton, VA, and one daughter; Vatricia Smith of Newport News, VA, two grandsons; Devene Mitchell and Matthew Smith, one granddaughter; Taylor Smith, one brother; Donald Moses, Sr. of Suffolk, VA, and two sisters; Clara Nelson of Tacoma, WA and Sharon Evans of Northern, VA. Additionally, Barbara is survived by other family and friends, including her New Life Church sisters and brothers in Christ (whom she loved dearly). Barbara left an indelible imprint on the hearts of everyone with whom she came in contact and will be genuinely missed!
