Barbara Alexandria Maxfield, born May 13, 1945, in Springfield, Massachusetts and grew up in Syracuse, New York. She received her heavenly reward on November 3, 2024. As a devoted wife of 44 years to Edward E. Maxfield, together they built a life centered on family and faith. Barbara was the beloved mother to her four daughters, Elisha (John) Fraguada, Jaleesa Maxfield, Ondreona (Isaac) Wigfall, and Melissa Maxfield; leaving behind a legacy through her eleven grandchildren. She is survived by her loving sister, Ruth (Jeff) Smith and was predeceased by her parents, Thomas John and Helen Biel, and her brother, Thomas Jude Biel.
Barbara's talents and passions were expressed in many ways, from her beautiful, intricate quilts and crafts to her drawings and writings. An accomplished typesetter and proofreader, Barbara contributed her skills touching countless lives with her words and dedication. Her missionary work in the church was one of quiet strength and deep compassion, particularly in her ministry with the disabled, and she spent many years serving others with unwavering kindness.
After retiring from CNY Relay as a TTY Operator, Barbara relocated to Hampton, Virginia, in 2015, where she became a cherished member of Greater Emmanuel Temple COGIC. Known for her gentle smile and caring spirit, Barbara found joy in helping others from behind the scenes, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel; 1601 27th St. Newport News, VA. Her life will be celebrated in a service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Greater Emmanuel Temple COGIC; 1225 N. King St. Hampton, VA., followed by the interment at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
Barbara's legacy of love, compassion, and faith will forever be remembered by her family and friends. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
