Barbara J.
Cook
d. Dec 14, 2025
Our Mother, Barbara Cook was born January 9, 1947, to the late Albert and Betty Lee Brown of Elizabeth City County (Hampton, Virginia).
She went to Hampton City Schools and graduated from George P. Phenix High School, class of 1965. She accepted Christ as her savior at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church and remained faithful to the Lord throughout her life and was blessed with a strong gift of discernment.
God blessed Mom with the gift of singing and she shared her talent as a member of the mass choir as well as the Ebenites, a gospel group formed at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Mom cherished spending time with her granddaughters, Jada and Kaycie. She treasured family gatherings and enthusiastically cheering on her Pittsburgh Steelers. Our Mom had a love for great food, particularly the finest desserts. She was known for her distinct sense of humor and straightforward way with words. Mom took great care in her appearance and in keeping a clean and welcoming home.
We are forever grateful to God for blessing us with such a loving and dedicated Mother. While we miss her with all our hearts, we know she is resting in the arms of our Lord and for that we find great comfort.
Left to cherish her memories are children, Kimberly (Chuck) Bluford of Hampton, VA and Sharron (Kevin) Harden of Carrollton, VA, grandchildren, Jada (Matthew) Haynes and Kaycie Harden, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. Special friend, Roy Combs and best friend Gwendolyn East. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth Cook and siblings.
