Augustine Harris II came into this world on September 21, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the third of seven children born to the late Augustine Harris Sr. and the late Musa Ada Harris. From the very beginning, Augustine was surrounded by family and family would remain the great love and anchor of his entire life.

Augustine grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1969.  After graduation, he found his footing in the working world, excelling at several hardware stores where his natural gift for fixing, building, and figuring things out began to shine.  He later went on to serve the community through his years of dedicated work at Einstein Hospital, where he showed up every day with the same quiet dependability that defined everything he did.

But perhaps the most important day of Augustine's life came in June of 1981, when he walked into Philadelphia Life Insurance Company and noticed the new girl, a Southern belle from Hampton, Virginia, named Gloria Gingles. Something about her stopped him in his tracks, and the rest, as they say, is a love story.  Augustine and Gloria married on February 15, 1986, and what began as a chance meeting at work became a marriage that lasted 40 beautiful years.  Forty years of partnership, of showing up for each other, of building something real and lasting together. Gloria was, without question, the love of his life.

From this loving union, three daughters were born; Jeannine, Jessie, and Sheniece who, along with his beloved daughters Youlanda and Marilyn, made Augustine a proud father of five.  He took that role seriously and wore it with pride every single day.

Augustine Harris II was the kind of man who knew no strangers.  Wherever he went, he found a way to connect, to help, to make someone feel seen.  When he was well, he could fix just about anything with an engine or a set of tools cars, machines, whatever needed tending to.  He had a gift for it.  But more than any mechanical skill, what people remember most about Augustine is how much he loved being around people, how genuinely he enjoyed his life, and how freely he gave of himself to anyone who needed it.

Augustine was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his sister Mary Dennis, and his precious grandsons Alex Harris and Levi Seth Buachie, who left this world too soon.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife and forever love, Gloria; his five daughters, Jeaninne Ivy Harris, Jessie Harris-Buachie (Josh), Sheniece Harris Imhof (Franz), Youlanda Harris, and Marilyn Harris; five siblings, Dorothy Williams, Anthony Harris Sr., Howard Harris (laVerne), Edna Parker, and Vernetta Davis (David); seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who knew him as Granddad; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were made richer simply by knowing him.

Augustine Harris II loved with his whole heart. He loved his family fiercely, laughed easily, and left this world having made it a little warmer for everyone he touched.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2026 at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N Armistead Avenue Hampton, VA 23666
