On December 20, 2025, Audrey D. Haynes, departed this life at the age of 81. Formerly known as Audrey Carrie Dawkins, she was born on August 27, 1944 in Newport News, VA.

After graduating from Huntington High School "Audrey Carrie" received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Hampton Institute.  Her life was profoundly shaped by her love of children, having worked with disabled children at Sarah Bonwell Hudgins and in foster care placements at Hampton Social Services.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Ora Dawkins; her brothers, Morgan Dawkins, Jr., Andrew E. Dawkins, Harvey W. Dawkins; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Dawkins.

She is survived by her children, Candice Hilliard, Anthony Hilliard and Loyal Haynes; sister-in-law, Willye Dawkins-Baker; nieces, Carolyn Jones (James), Tracey Dawkins (Blakes), Alan Dawkins, Toni Martin and Ernest White; and a host of other friends and family members.

A funeral service will be held Monday, January 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. 23607.
