Anthony Kent "Tony " Holmes was born on March 4, 1958 and departed this life while at home, on February 18, 2024.  He was predeceased by his mother and father, Vivian and Felix Holmes and sister, Vivian "Lisa " Moses.

Tony is survived by daughter Shayla; siblings Michael (Anna), Steven (Mary) and Rochelle (Otha); his nieces and nephews, Michael, Danielle, Avian (Donte Deans), Aaron, Christian, Avery, Aubrey, Donte "DJ", Adrian, and Isabella "Izzy"; as well as numerous friends, extended family and new acquaintances.

Tony was reared in a military family and enjoyed part of his childhood living in Italy.  After graduating Pembroke High School in 1976, he enlisted in the US Army, proudly serving 18 years (1976-1995), before retiring at the rank of E-7.  He was an accomplished personnel sergeant and recruiter and achieved numerous awards. He was an Assistant Evaluator, Personnel Service Support Team, in Germany from 1984-1985.  He was part of an elite team that was the first to automate military orders in Europe. Recognized as subject matter expert on all personnel matters.

He also was a member of American Legion in Hampton, VA., where he joined in 2007.  Following his military career, Tony worked several years as a workforce analyst in the Hampton- Newport News area, until his health began to decline.  Tony was a caring soul who left a warm impression on the lives he touched. He will be truly missed.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans cemetery with full military honors.  There will be no public viewing.
