Mrs. Annie M. Stewart, 90, of Hampton, Virginia, passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday, May 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Annie was born on October 27, 1935, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Eva Cypress.  She was the oldest of three children and is preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Mae Urquhart.  She is survived by her beloved brother, Lemuel Brown.  She was the devoted wife of the late Henry Clay Stewart, Sr.

A proud graduate of Huntington High School, Class of 1954, Annie later pursued her passion for caregiving.  In the 1970s she completed medical training and became a Certified Nurse’s Assistant.  She served in that role with compassion and dedication until her retirement in 2000.

In 1988, Annie gave her life to God and became a faithful member of what is now known as Cornerstone Worship Center.  She remained an active and devoted member for as long as her health allowed.

She will be remembered most fondly by her family and friends for her world-famous fried chicken and the beloved Sunday dinners she lovingly prepared after church each week.  Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and togetherness that created memories cherished by generations.

Annie is survived by her children: Karen Dabney (Carroll) of Hampton, Gregory Stewart of Hampton, Kimberly Bailey (Kevin) of Maryland, and Cheri Payne of Maryland; 10 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service starting at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Cornerstone Worship Center International Assembly in Hampton, VA.  Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
