Annie Mae Simpson Carter, 84, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 9, 2024, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.  She was born on October 10, 1940, in Yanceyville (Caswell County), North Carolina to the late William Pink Simpson and Lizzie Beatrice Bigelow Simpson Walker.

Annie moved to Newport News, Virginia in her early 20s and worked various jobs.  She retired, at the age of 65, from Virginia Maid Kitchens in Newport News, Virgina.

Annie was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Lee Simpson.  She leaves to cherish her precious memories, four children:  Attell L. Simpson (Lisa) of Kankakee, Illinois; Lisa L. Gillespie of Hampton, Virginia; Vento D. Carter (Kwinna) of Hampton, Virginia; and Eric M. Carter (Brionna) of Newport News, Virginia; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of loving family members and friends.

Viewing will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Virginia 23607.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in the funeral chapel.  Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
