Obituary

Anne M. Morse, 81, was born in Loundes County, Alabama on July 5, 1943.  She died peacefully, on May 8, 2025, surrounded by her family, in the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She died from an injury she suffered from a fall while visiting Chicago, a city she had always wanted to visit, and was enjoying herself immensely right up until the time of the accident.  Anne spent her early childhood and adolescent life in Montgomery, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Thompson and Joanne Berry; sister, Clara Giles and brother, Joe Thompson, Jr.  She is survived by her husband, George O. Morse, to whom she was married for almost 57 years; sons, George O. Morse, Jr. (Carly) and Cedric W. Morse; sister, Angela Payne; granddaughter, Chloe G. Morse and grandson, Demerick J. Morse; sisters-in-law, Laurine Hardy, and Estelle Rogers, and brother-in-law, Ulysses Morse (Mary), as well as a host of family members and friends.

Anne had an outgoing, engaging personality that made her a joy to be around. This demeaner enabled her to easily make acquaintances and develop friendships.  It also made it possible for her to have a highly successful career as a cosmetics salesperson and makeup artist in military exchange stores for over 20 years before retiring in 2010.  Anne was a prototype military wife who traveled with and supported her husband during his military career.  She managed to make a loving home for her family, no matter where they were stationed, sometimes in challenging accommodations.  She was active in military wives' clubs and worked to support more junior military members and their families.

Anne was a deeply religious person who had an unshakable faith in God.  She loved listening to gospel music. She was an active member of the Langley Air Force Base Chapel Gospel Service.  She was a member of the usher board and in the past, worked in the youth religious education program.

Anne loved to shop both in stores and on the internet for home goods and especially for the latest in fashion apparel; however, Anne's biggest hobbies was traveling, especially going on cruises.  Her most memorable cruises were to Alaska, the southern Caribbean, Greece, and traversing The Panama Canal.  She also enjoyed car trips with her husband.  Among her most memorable trips were driving and exploring the entire Blue Ridge Parkway, driving to Key West, Florida, and sightseeing through the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. She was passionate about cooking from recipes she obtained from a multitude of cookbooks, the internet, and watching cooking shows on television.  She had a keen interest in interior decoration, always exploring how she could change the décor of her home.
