Angela Denise Mitchell (Barnes), was born September 26, 1952 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Eugene and Vivian Barnes White. She passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026. She was raised by her mother and her step-father, the Leon White.

Angela attended school in Hampton, Va. She was among the first wave of students to integrate Hampton High School. She graduated from Hampton High in 1972. Angela attended Key Business College in Newport News, Va. She worked at Newport News Shipbuilding. She also worked at Fort Eustis Army base and Langley Air Force Base. Angela retired from Langley as a military shipping clerk.

Angela loved spending time at the beach with her family. She had a best friend, Deatrice Elie “Dee-Dee”, whom she knew for over 50 years. Angela enjoyed taking day trips and going to the movies with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 45 years, Paul Mitchell; her sons, Anthony Marcellus Mitchell, Paul Jerard Mitchell; her mother-in-law, Elsie Mitchell; another very close friend, Sherri Dobbins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many friends.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News,Va. 23607.
