Albert Johnson, 71, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Alvin, as he was affectionately known as, was born and raised in Newport News, Va and was the fifth child born to Henry Johnson, Sr. and Idell P. Johnson Batten. He was a 1971 graduate of Huntington High School. After high school, Alvin worked at Newport News Shipbuilding, a career that lasted over 39 years.

Alvin is predeceased by his parents; his eight sisters, Mary Louise Diggs, Annie Mae Saunders, Laura McGlone, Gwendolyn Vinson, Linda Holt, Joyce Batten, Sheila Johnson and Angela Smith; and one brother, Jeffery Batten.

He is survived by his wife, Denise J. Johnson; his children, Albert Lamont Johnson (Alisha), April Johnson and Alesia Johnson Sargent (Earl); his grandchildren, Talaiya Thompson, Corey Thompson, Jayla Sargent, Isaiah Thompson, Joelle Sargent, Sydney Thompson, Jordan Sargent, and Zoe Johnson; two brothers, Henry Johnson, Jr. (Jetsie) and Johnny Batten (Joanne); a sister-in-law, Marilyn Buggs (Vid); his best friend since 2nd grade, Kelvin Grey; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alvin will be missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We would love for you to come and honor his life at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024 at Gospel Light United Holy Church, 2614 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, Va. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
