Obituary

Mr. Albert Wilcox Hatcher, Sr., passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024.  He was born September 26, 1943, in Margaret Mase Hospital in Wildwood, New Jersey to the late Anna Mitchell Hatcher and Henry Hatcher.

Albert attended the Middle Township public school system.  On January 29, 1962, Albert joined the United States Navy.  On February 7, 1968, he married the love of his life, Fannie I. Cooper Hatcher, how passed away on September 15, 2006, after 38 years of marriage.   While serving in the United States Military, he served in the Swift Boat, Vietnam War, where he later retired.

Albert was also employed by Armellini Logistics as an ACL Heating mechanic, National Freight Inc. in 1975 as a truck refrigeration repairman.  He was also the first black independent building contractor in the area of Middle Township.

In 1997, Albert relocated to Virginia.  Albert had several hobbies, he enjoyed building, drawing blueprints, cooking, baking, wood craft, being a handy man (jack of all trades), and most of all, spending time with his family.  He had a love for and spent a lot of time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna, and Henry Hatcher; his wife, Fannie Hatcher; his daughter, Angie Cooper; his brothers, Henry, Jack, Thornton, Jerome, Curtis, Frank, Bill, Eddie and Lloyd Hatcher; his sisters, Bertha, Tressa, Minnie Hatcher and Anne Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Albert W. Hatcher Jr., Calvin L. Cooper, and Francine T. Shann; his brothers, Thomas of Whitesboro, NJ, James and (Elaine) of Connecticut, Sammy and (Francis) of Bridgeton, NY, Andrew and (Lydia) of NC.,  and Charles of Virginia; his sister, Ruthie of Camden, NJ.; 10 grandchildren, Lamont Cooper, Kevin Cooper, Kiara Cooper, Ruby Cooper, Nygel Cooper, Deanna Hatcher, Alexander Hatcher, Allesha Lymon, Alexis Hatcher, and Rodisha Shann; 17 great-grandchildren, Montasia Cooper, Lamaja Cooper, Lynaia Cooper, Aleah Cooper, Zahavia Cooper, Lanaya Cooper, Kevin Cooper, Kamaya Cooper, Kingston Eddington, Kaiair Eddington, Nayla Cooper, Empryss Harrington, Austin (Bhudda) Cooper, Ariana Cooper, Tyhir Martin, Zoey Graves, Egypt Braswell; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Albert will be missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th, Newport News, Va. Interment with full military honors will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
